Charged Privacy Policy (iOS)
This privacy policy applies to Charged ("app", "service", "website"), including its associated iOS app, APIs, server infrastructure, and website at chargedup.app. Charged is developed and operated by Harbour City Software Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our").
By using Charged, you agree to this policy. It may be updated over time; the most recent version is available here.
Information We Collect
Anonymous Accounts & Preferences
When you use Charged, an anonymous account is created to support functionality such as preferences, active charging availability monitors, subscription information and metadata, and future features such as route planning. These accounts are not linked to your real-world identity. Instead, anonymous user IDs and tokens are used to manage your account and preferences.
Your preferences and charging availability monitors may contain EV sites near your location, and although they do not include your precise coordinates, they may infer an approximate region. We do not currently collect or store your identity or email address. In the future, it might be an option to link your email address with your account.
Traffic Data
Charged routes network requests through our servers. We collect minimal technical information required to operate the service. This includes but is not limited to:
- IP address
- Timestamps
- Destination domains or URLs
- HTTP headers and metadata
This information is not linked to your identity and is used to provide, troubleshoot, and optimise features in Charged.
Caching
Some data may be temporarily cached by our servers to improve performance and reduce bandwidth. This cache is not used for user profiling or tracking.
Third-Party Services
Charged forwards some requests to third-party services, such as TomTom, for real-time charger data and geolocation information. No precise identifiable user data is shared. Please review their privacy policy for more information.
Anonymous Analytics
We collect anonymous usage statistics to help improve Charged. This includes general feature usage and app performance metrics.
Analytics are provided by:
- Telemetry Deck: privacy-focused anonymous analytics. Their policy is available here.
- Superwall: used to anonymously track subscription events (e.g., purchase time, expiry time). Their privacy policy is available here.
Apple may also collect anonymised usage and diagnostic data from users depending on their device settings.
Location
Charged requests access to your location to show nearby EV chargers. Location access is required for the core functionality of the app, but:
- Only approximate coordinates are sent off-device.
- Location data is not stored, sold, or reused for any other purpose.
- Requests are proxied through our servers and passed to TomTom as required for functionality.
Support and Contact
If you contact us via email or another channel, we may receive your name, email, and any message content. If you include your anonymous user ID or token, we may use that to assist in diagnosing or resolving issues. This information is only used for support and troubleshooting purposes.
In-app email support template may auto-fill metadata such as app version or device info to help troubleshoot. You may edit or remove this before sending.
Mailing List
You may optionally sign up for our mailing list. This is not required to use Charged. Emails are managed through Email Octopus, and you may unsubscribe at any time. Their privacy policy is available here.
Server Infrastructure
Charged's backend is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare may collect basic technical logs (such as IP addresses or connection time) for operational and security purposes. You can review their privacy policy here.
Your Privacy Choices
You are not required to provide any personally identifying information to use Charged. Any future features that involve personal data (e.g., email addresses) will be clearly explained.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we collect and maintain, including technical and organisational measures intended to safeguard it from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot warrant the security of any data transmitted to or from our servers or stored on our systems. Use of the app and related services is at your own risk.
Legal Disclosure
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to valid legal processes such as a subpoena, court order, or warrant. This may include cooperating with law enforcement or government regulators as permitted under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Given that Charged only collects anonymised or pseudonymised data in most cases, the information disclosed is typically not linked to a real-world identity. However, if you have contacted us or included a user token or ID, that information may be used to comply with legal obligations if reasonably necessary.
We do not voluntarily share user data with authorities or third parties unless legally compelled to do so.
If Charged is ever sold, involved in a merger or acquisition, or as part of a sale or transfer of assets, your information (including anonymised data) may be transferred to the relevant third party. In such cases, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that your privacy rights are respected and that the third party complies with applicable privacy laws.
